Discounted adoption fees between 50 to 100 per cent off are on all this week as part of a Black Friday promotion from Brampton Animal Services.
The city’s animal adoption and care department has slashed adoption costs for potential pet parents rescuing critters from the Brampton Animal Services shelter.
Dog adoptions normally cost $200 plus a pet licence fee, but those costs have been cut down to $100 during the promotion.
Cat adoptions which usually start at $120 have also been reduced by 50 per cent, while all fees for small animal adoptions like rabbits, mice, birds and guinea pigs, have been completely waived.
“Don’t miss this fantastic chance to find your new furry friend during our week-long event,” Brampton Animal Services said in a social media post of the event that runs until Friday.
“This amazing offer is exclusively for pets adopted at our shelter. Visit us and bring home a new family member today.”
One of the pooches looking for a new home are Scrump – a three-year-old terrier and “toy enthusiast” with “a friendly personality that shines through in every interaction,” the shelter says.
“If you’re ready for some fun-filled days and cozy nights, Scrump is ready to be your loyal sidekick,” his bio on the Brampton Animal Services website reads.
Adoption fees include vaccinations, sterilization and a free veterinary exam to get your furry friend ready for their new home, Brampton Animal Services says.
If adoption isn’t an option then there’s also pet fostering, allowing a pet to live temporarily in your home until a permanent owner can be found. Fostering gives animals a safe home environment and helps socialize the pet for future adoption, while also reducing overcrowding in the shelter.
The shelter provides all the food, supplies and medical care a foster pet needs while the foster provides “love and a safe, temporary place to stay.”
Brampton Animal Services also accepts donations to the Pet Food pantry program and Helping Orphaned Pets in Emergencies (HOPE) Fund, which helps the rehabilitation of sick and injured animals so they can be adopted into loving homes.
Brampton Animal Services has struggled with capacity issues at the shelter, with a lower number of prospective pet owners coming to the shelter leading the city to say kennels were ” completely full” this summer with some dogs forced to share shelter space.
Brampton City Council has been working on bringing a new facility to Brampton that will be home to a new Brampton Animal Services Shelter, which will also be home to several other groups including the Credit Valley Conservation Authority, Centre for Community Energy Transformation, and the Post Traumatic Growth Association.
