Free movie popcorn on offer to celebrate national day at some Ontario theatres

Movie-goers won’t want to miss National Popcorn Day in Ontario.
Cineplex is celebrating the national day by giving away free bags of its buttery popcorn, according to a press release from Cineplex.
Both movie-goers and home cinema watchers can snag a free bag on Jan. 19.
There is a catch, however, — you must be a Scene+ Member.
Scene+ Members who buy a movie ticket at a Cineplex theatre on Jan. 19 can get a free small bag of popcorn in theatres.
Those enjoying a movie at home will get a free small bag with all Cineplex food delivery orders through Uber and SkipTheDishes.
In 2023, Cineplex guests nationwide enjoyed 34 billion kernels. The most popular topping was butter, followed by a selection of seasoning flavours. Top flavours include dill pickle, white cheddar, and ketchup.
Fun fact: Fossil evidence from Peru suggests that corn was popped as early as 4,700 B.C. The term popped corn first appeared in John Russell Bartlett’s 1848 Dictionary of Americanisms.
