A new little library has opened in a Mississauga neighbourhood.
The Queen Frederica community celebrated their Little Free Library opening this week.
The Little Free Library, near Dundas Street and Queen Frederica Drive, is a free “take a book, share a book” book exchange.
Anyone may take a book or bring a book to share, and the book exchange is for all ages, said the Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre. The centre was founded in 1988 by concerned members of the community to enhance the quality of life of those residing in the Dixie Bloor area.
“Little Free Library will promote early literacy, share the love of reading, strengthen the community, and encourage connections,” the centre said.
The library is especially important for families with young children who may not have easy access to books, the centre added. The closest public library in this area is about a 20-minute walk away.
The new library was built with the help of community members, Peel Living and the Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre.
Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre has a community steward who will help care for the library, and the centre hopes the whole community will come together to support its continued growth and use.
“DBNC dreams that more communities will have Little Free Libraries everywhere,” the centre said.
They welcome donations to purchase books and/or create more libraries.
