Food, charcoal and clothes steamers recalled this week in Mississauga and Brampton

Health Canada has issued advisories and recalled multiple products this week (May 24 to 30) due to potential health and safety risks.

Residents are advised to check if they have these products at home and avoid using or consuming them out of caution.

The following products are affected:


Sierra Citronella Oil

Type: Recall

Risk: The container may leak after opening when not stored in the upright position, posing a hazard if inhaled or ingested. Leaks from the container could result in unintentional exposure to the product and lead to serious illness or injury, including death.

Product info: This recall involves Sierra Citronella Oil sold in a 1.89 L black bottle with a white cap. The model number is 1903 and UPC is 808862219031. 

What you should do: Consumers should immediately stop using the product and return it to any Home Depot store to obtain a refund, or safely dispose of the product in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements.


Jealous Devil Lump Charcoal and Jealous Devil Maxxx Extra Large Briquets

Type: Recall

Risk: The products do not meet the warning label requirements under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act which requires warning labels be in both French and English. Jealous Devil Charcoal does not have a French warning label.

Product info: Jealous Devil Maxxx Briquets UPC: 860001904871. Jealous Devil XL All-Natural Hardwood Lump Charcoal UPC: 861368000237.

What you should do: Consumers are advised to contact Dickson Barbeque for a French label.


Joy/JM branded “My Little Steamer” and “My Little Steamer Go Mini” Clothes Steamers

Type: Recall

Risk: The products can expel, spray, or leak hot water during use, posing a potential burn hazard to consumers. As of April 30, 2021, the company has received 1 report of injury in Canada.

What you should do: Consumers are advised to immediately stop using and destroy the affected products. Contact HSN for information about how to receive a full refund for units purchased from January 2018 to December 2020 or a partial refund for units purchased before January 2015.


Bontrager Satellite City Pedals

Type: Recall

Risk: If the pedals are incorrectly installed by the retailer during assembly, they can fall off the crank arm of the bicycle, posing fall and injury hazards to the rider.

Product info: This recall involves Bontrager Satellite City pedals that were sold as original equipment on certain Trek bicycles as well as an after-market product. The affected pedals have “ZTR02” molded on the axle side of each pedal body.

What you should do: Consumers should immediately stop using the affected pedals and bring their bike or pedals to a Trek retailer for a free pedal replacement and installment.

Type: Recall

Risk: The products contain excessive amygdalin which may cause acute cyanide poisoning.
