Burlington has lifted parking restrictions on some streets to accommodate flood clean-up efforts.

The temporary measure will suspend the 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. and five-hour parking restrictions on residential streets in all parts of the city.

The parking exemption will not apply to the downtown area, the waterfront, Beachway Park or Lowville Park.

City councillors decided to take the step to ease the burden of homeowners dealing with the damage caused by the recent floods.

This measure will be in effect until Aug. 31.

Residents do not need to apply for a parking exemption during this time. Signed restrictions on residential streets still apply. Parking regulations for safety and fire routes must also be followed.

Parking offenses not related to time will still be enforced and drivers could receive a ticket or be towed if parked illegally.
