First snowfall prompts warning as crashes reported in Mississauga and Milton

The first real snowfall of the season has started in the GTA prompting warnings from officials.
Weather forecasters are now predicting snow accumulations of approximately five centimetres on Wednesday.
There is a winter weather travel advisory advisory in effect for Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, York Region, Halton, Hamilton, Durham Region and Niagara Region on Wednesday, according Environment and Climate Change Canada.
As of 8:30 a.m., there were at least two crashes reported on GTA highways.
A crash just after 8 a.m. closed westbound lanes of Highway 403 at Mississauga Road, according the Ministry of Transportation 511 site.
Another crash was reported around the same time in the westbound express lanes on Highway 401 at James Snow Parkway in Milton.
There are also road closures on Highway 401 east of Oshawa.
Peel Regional Police asked drivers to take care on the roads.
“We are seeing our first snowfall in the region,” said Const. Richard Chin in a post on X Wednesday morning. “Please drive according to the road conditions, slow down, and make sure you leave space between you and the car in front of you.”
