Work is officially underway at the site for the new 22-storey state-of-the-art Mississauga hospital.
Earlier this week, workers were seen clearing and leveling the current surface staff parking lot, preparing the area for the new parking structure.
The new parkade will be located where the surface lot used to be, south of the new hospital site.
Work on the hospital building itself will not begin until 2025.
Plans for the new facility were first released to the public on Dec. 1, 2021, when developer Trillium Health Partners (THP) announced its agreement with the Ontario Government to entirely replace the Mississauga Hospital on the corner of Queensway West and Hurontario Street.
THP are in the process of having the site for the new hospital rezoned as it is currently zoned for residential use.
The new hospital will feature a new pharmacy and clinical laboratory, a new advanced diagnostic imaging facility, an increased number of surgical operating rooms (from 14 to 23) with specialized equipment and advanced imaging systems, and a new and expanded Emergency Department (ED), creating one of the largest EDs in the province.
