The City of Mississauga has launched its first-ever virtual fitness membership program and it’s geared toward people of all ages and abilities.
Qualified instructors in Mississauga have delivered virtual fitness classes to more than 300,000 people since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and City officials have now expanded that idea to make it a permanent offering that includes memberships.
“This has given (instructors) experience to deliver online classes that are inclusive for all levels and abilities,” a City of Mississauga spokesperson said in a news release.
“In addition to the existing memberships, a virtual fitness membership provides members with unlimited access to dynamic online classes, making it easy to stay active and healthy at home or on the road.”
Officials add everyone is welcome to sign up and the virtual classes “uniquely offer instruction, education and options to make workouts safe and comfortable. This is a great option for those just starting out, returning to exercise or needing modifications.”
The City says virtual fitness has many benefits, including:
- convenience: you can virtually attend classes from anywhere. Weather, time and travel no longer need to hold you back from a healthy lifestyle, officials say
- experience: qualified instructors have plenty of experience to deliver online classes that are inclusive for all levels and abilities
- variety of classes: virtual members have unlimited access to 18 classes each week. Choose from workouts including yoga, zumba, seated strength and total body workout
build confidence: stepping into a gym can be intimidating. Virtual classes provide participants with the option to work out with the camera on or off and use modifications that best fit their abilities while gaining experience and confidence
Those interested in signing up can do so online (City of Mississauga website) or at any of Mississauga’s community centres. One- and six-month memberships are available.
