Brampton rapper Lioness Kaur has released her first album.
A long-time presence in the GTA, Kaur’s debut release The Lion with Emerald Eyes, is available for streaming on all major platforms.
The release features 15 tracks, including the Gangster Walk, in which Kaur raps in Punjabi for the first time.
Kaur’s music has earned the support of others in the industry like Young Money, Tory Lanez, Lloyd Banks, and The Game. Her style has earned her comparisons to legends such as Nas, Young M.A, and André 3000. Complex Magazine named her one of the “20 Canadian Artists to Watch in 2023.”
Kaur co-produced several songs on the album and used South Asian beats and sounds to combine cultures.
“Breaking into hip-hop as a Punjabi/Sikh woman has been both a challenge and a triumph. This album embodies my journey, my heritage, and my unyielded determination to voice my story,” says Kaur.
In conjunction with her album release, Kaur has also dropped a music video for Black Sheep, now streaming on YouTube. The song addresses toxic beauty standards and other societal issues, including racism. Her previous single, Fire in Ya Eyes Again amassed over 500,000 streams during the summer of 2024.
