Fire hazard vacuum recalled in Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton and across Ontario

A vacuum cleaner is being recalled in Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, and across Ontario that could overheat and cause a fire hazard.
Health Canada has issued a recall for the BISSELL Cordless Multi-Surface Wet Dry Vacuum, saying a circuit board inside the vacuum’s battery pack can overheat and smoke, posing a fire hazard.
The affected product has model number 2551 and a UPC 011120247633, and has “BISSELL” is printed on the foot of the product. The model number on the affected product is visible to the consumer when the clean water tank is removed.
So far there have been at least six reports of the vacuum causing a burning smell or smoke in Canada, with no injuries in any of the instances. However, in the U.S., the company has received three reports of the battery catching fire with one reported injury.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact BISSELL to obtain a free battery pack replacement. Consumers can either take the product to a local BISSELL authorized service center for a free battery pack replacement, or schedule a free in-home repair visit from an authorized BISSELL service technician to replace the existing battery pack.
The affected products were sold from January 2019 to October 2022, and the company has reported that 4,227 units of the affected product were sold in Canada and 60,503 were sold in the United States.
