The swimming pool at a community centre in Mississauga’s west end is closed until further notice after it was damaged by fire on Wednesday night.
Mississauga firefighters say they quickly responded to the blaze around the dinner hour at River Grove Community Centre, located just off River Grove Avenue and south of Britannia Road West.
Firefighters said in a post to social media they made “a quick stop on a fire at River Grove Community Centre, saving potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages.”
No serious injuries were reported and the fire was quickly extinguished, reports indicate.
It’s not known if anyone was in the pool area at the time of the blaze, nor are there any estimates available as to how many people were inside the community centre at the time.
The recreation complex is located just to the northwest of Hazel McCallion Senior Public School.
City of Mississauga officials said in their latest update the fire investigation continues and that “the pool will remain closed until further notice.”
However, “all non-aquatic programming will resume Thursday morning as scheduled,” they added.
The community centre was closed for several hours Wednesday night as fire officials cleaned up the scene and investigated.
