Find a pet in need at Mississauga and Brampton PetSmart for National Adoption Week

It’s National Adoption Week, and PetSmart locations in Mississauga and Brampton have lots of furry friends in need of a good home.
From cats and dogs to all manner of smaller pets, Mississauga and Brampton residents are invited to PetSmart locations until March 12 to visit with some adoptable critters from local pet shelters and animal welfare organizations.
Prospective pet parents can see what animals are available as volunteers help potential adopters learn more about the pets they are interested in.
PetSmart says there are more than 90,000 pets who enter shelters and rescues every year. But programs like the National Adoption Week adoption drive help pets of all varieties, including those with special needs, find their forever homes.
Heidi Marston, director of pet placement at PetSmart Charities of Canada, says this mission feels especially personal.
Marson adopted her dog Gatsby, a 6-year-old blind and deaf Great Dane mix, after touring a shelter. She originally took a video of sweet Gatsby to send to a friend who was looking to adopt, but after showing the video to her partner, Gatsby had an instant home with Marston and her family.
She said National Adoption Week is an ideal opportunity to give a shelter pet what they need most — people to love.”
“Many shelters across the country are full, and pets of all kinds are waiting longer today for their families,” Marson said in a release. “I’ve always been drawn to pets with special needs because they have so much to teach us much. These resilient pets have a different way of connecting with people and that bond is often like nothing you’ve ever experienced before.”
