Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown helped open Fiji Park in the city’s east end, a tribute to Brampton’s Fiji-Canadian community.
The ceremony was held Saturday, on the 51st anniversary of Fiji’s independence.
Fijian-Canadians have called Brampton home for more than 40 years and the Fijian Association of Ontario and Fijian Multicultural Society are both headquartered in the city. There is also a Fiji Market on Torbram Road where shoppers can enjoy fresh farm goat and chicken, Fijian groceries and, of course, kava, the national drink of the Pacific Island country.
