A fight broke out after a multi-vehicle crash that left a motorcycle passenger dead in Ontario, leading to an attempted murder charge being laid against a suspect, police say.
Ontario Provincial Police said emergency crews responded to a collision just before 5 p.m. Saturday involving three motorcycles, an SUV and a pickup truck.
It happened on Highway 6 near Blueline Road in Norfolk County.
A passenger on one of the motorcycles — a 33-year-old Sudbury resident — died at the scene. The operator of that motorcycle suffered serious injuries and was taken to a trauma centre, OPP said.
And the operator of another motorcycle sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
Police previously said that four other vehicle occupants weren’t injured.
In an update on Monday, police said that an “altercation” took place after the crash that resulted in one person being seriously injured. They were taken to hospital.
It’s not clear how exactly the person injured in the fight may have been involved in the collision. The OPP said that a publication ban is in effect on the case and when asked for further clarification, a police spokesperson told INsauga.com, “certain details must be withheld.”
“Therefore, it would be inappropriate for me to provide further comment,” Const. Andrew Gamble said.
A suspect was taken into custody and has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, dangerous operation, dangerous operation causing bodily harm, and dangerous operation causing death.
The OPP said an investigation into the incident is ongoing and anyone with information was asked to come forward.
