After last night’s brutal cold snap, the chill and the snow are set to continue into today.

According to Environment Canada readings at Pearson Airport, the flurries will continue from overnight until about noon. During that time temperatures will begin around -7 degrees at 6 a.m. and climb a bit to -3 by the afternoon.

While overnight winds whipped by at up 70 km/h, they will calm a little to a steady 30 km/h with gusts up to 50 km/h. These strong winds will make it feel much colder. The windchill at 7 a.m. will feel closer to -16. However, as the winds calm it will rise to -6 by dark.

The slightly warmer temperatures come after the thermometer collapsed yesterday evening which prompted a special weather alert across the GTA. The fierce cold and roaring wind prompted a warning about icy conditions.

Skies will remain partially cloudy after the snows stop, remaining so into Mar. 1. However, after this last storm, March will be off to a warm start with temperatures reaching 8 degrees. This will kick off a warm, if wet, weekend in which temperatures will peak at 13 degrees.
