Better late than never for Farm Boy.

The food retailer that promises farm-to-table fresh products was supposed to open its second Burlington location late last year but that was delayed.

Now, plans are for the store to open at 3230 Fairview Street sometime next month.

A source familiar with the plans said the grocer is aiming for an August opening, but is prepared to wait until the fall to make sure everything is complete.

“They don’t want to rush the opening,” the source said. “They want to open with a fully functional store to give shoppers the typical Farm Boy experience. They won’t rush it.

When it does open the new location will be Farm Boy’s 50th Canadian store having opened the 49th this past week in Mississauga.

Farm Boy shoppers can expect fresh produce (including local and organic products), hormone-free and organic meat, dairy and other grocery goods, Canadian beef, pork and chicken, a hot bar and a salad bar, grab-and-go items, a curated collection of private label products exclusive to Farm Boy, a wide selection of international and Canadian cheeses and more.

Typically Farm Boy stores are smaller than large chain grocers and are located in areas where there is plenty of parking. At Fairview , the store will be in the former Pier 1 Imports location and is near the Burlington Centre.

Farm Boy is owned by Sobey’s grocery stores and opened it first store in 1981 and has steadily spread across the country.

The original Burlington Farm Boy is at 3061 Walkers Line.
