Family fishing day set to take place this Sunday in Mississauga

Municipal officials are opening up local beaches this week, as this Sunday (July 7) is Family Fishing Day in the Mississauga area.

The upcoming celebration is part of Family Fishing Week, which has been ongoing since June 29, with the week-long event is designed to allow individuals in the Mississauga area the chance to fish without a license.

According to an official release, the weeklong event — and its final day this Sunday — is set to place at Lake Aquitaine — a location that bolsters a wide variety of fish including bass, perch, and crappie.

To support active participants who don’t have their fishing equipment, the city is offering a variety of rods and lures to borrow. However, municipal officials have indicated that there is only a fixed amount of them and that they are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Additional activities apart from fishing will also include educational sessions, where experts on fishing and conservation will provide insights into Lake Aquitaine’s natural and stormwater management features, alongside its importance in local biodiversity and real-time advice on how to be mindful when fishing.

Family Fishing Day is set to take place at Lake Aquitaine this Sunday, July 7, from 9 am to 1 pm. Additional information on the event can be found on the City of Mississauga’s official website.
