A family escaped from an SUV before it was engulfed in flames on a highway in Mississauga Wednesday morning.
Mississauga Fire Platoon Chief Ryan Baird told INsauga.com that firefighters responded to the scene at 11:10 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the Queen Elizabeth Way, just west of Hurontario Street.
“It sounds like the driver just noticed something wrong with the car and pulled over,” Baird said.
“There was a family in the car, but everyone was able to get out of the car safely. And actually a Good Samaritan pulled over and offered them seating in his car until we arrived and made the scene safe.”
No one was injured.
It’s not clear what exactly may have caused the fire.
Baird noted that the SUV — a Hyundai Santa Fe — wasn’t involved in a collision or anything like that prior to the blaze.
Some lanes were closed during the incident, but reopened a short time later.
