Motorists are being reminded to ease up on the gas when coming to view the beautiful fall colours in Caledon after police say one sightseer was busted driving nearly double the limit on a rural road.

The traffic stop happened on Saturday afternoon when the OPP says officers from the Caledon detachment were out on Olde Baseline Road near the Cheltenham Badlands, some 13 kilometres east of Caledon and around 20 kilometres north of Brampton.

Depending on the stretch Olde Baseline Road has a speed limit of 40 km/h or 50 km/h, and police say the driver of a Toyota Rav4 was clocked going 90 km/h.

Police say the driver was charged with stunting and their licence was suspended for 30 days. They were also hit with a 14-day vehicle impound.

Police say the badlands often see an increased number of visitors during the autumn season and are reminding drivers to take their time so they can enjoy the views safely.

“If you’ve come to see the fall colours, slow down so you can enjoy them,” the OPP said on social media.

Anyone who witnesses a speeding driver can contact police by calling 911 when safe to do so. Anonymous tips may also be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
