Police have seized replica firearms and charged a youth with making “serious” threats against a Brampton high school.

Just before midnight on Sunday (Dec. 18), Peel Regional Police say officers received reports of threats made against Brampton’s St. Augustine Catholic Secondary School on social media platforms.

Concerned parents saw the post and contacted police. A police spokesperson declined to comment on the exact nature of the threat but said it was “serious.”

Police say they arrested and charged a youth with Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm in relation to the incident. Two assault rifle-style airsoft guns, magazines and an airsoft handgun were seized, police said.

A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits police from releasing any details about the accused. Police did not say whether the accused is a student at the school.

Police said there is no ongoing threat to public safety. St. Augustine Catholic Secondary was open for classes on Monday morning.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators with the 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at (905)453-2121 ext. 2233. Information may also be left anonymously by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by visiting www.peelcrimestoppers.ca.
