A heat warning will remain in effect in Halton and Peel (Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills) until Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Environment Canada says maximum temperatures today are expected to reach between 30 and 32 degrees with humidex values near 41.
Minimum overnight temperatures will be between 20 and 23 degrees celsius.
A slightly cooler and less humid air mass will arrive in the area late on Tuesday, the weather agency says, adding that hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality.
Extreme heat affects everyone, but the risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
Residents are reminded to never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
