A heat warning continues across southern Ontario with extreme heat expected tomorrow.

Environment Canada issued a new heat warning this morning (July 27).

Hot and humid conditions are continuing with very humid conditions today and humidex values in the upper thirties.

Friday is expected to be “extremely hot with humidex values reaching forty for many areas,” Environment Canada says in the warning.

Minimum temperatures will be in the low twenties providing little relief from the heat.

Areas near the lakes will be cooler than areas inland.

Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high-risk category.

There is also a chance of rain and thunderstorms.

Environment Canada advises people to watch for the effects of heat illness including swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place, Environment Canada suggests. Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool place.

It’s also a good idea to check on older family, friends and neighbours and make sure they are cool and drinking water.

And of course, never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Ontario residents can expect cooler temperatures on Saturday.
