A propane canister was intentionally ignited and blew up during a domestic violence incident in northern Ontario, police say.
Ontario Provincial Police said that on Tuesday at around 6 p.m., emergency crews responded to a 911 call on Stewart Avenue in Kapuskasing.
“A small propane canister was intentionally ignited, causing a loud explosion and damage to the interior of the residence,” police said.
The complainant was able to extinguish a fire before it spread, police said.
The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, but was located and arrested not long after, police said.
A 30-year-old resident of Fauquier-Strickland has been charged with arson — disregard for human life, causing an explosion likely to cause bodily harm, death, or serious damage to property, mischief over $5,000, and four counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
The suspect remains is custody and has a court appearance scheduled for Friday.
