The summer heat has faded, but the temperature continues to rise at Bar Catalina, a traditional Spanish restaurant located in the heart of Port Credit in Mississauga.
At Bar Catalina, immerse yourself in Spanish culture through an atmosphere you’d find at your favourite bar in Spain. With uplifting music and a beautiful ambiance, the character of this restaurant is awakened through decorative interiors, such as colourful ceramic tiles – a popular European-style design that can be found throughout the streets and cities of Spain.
While the ambiance enhances this restaurant’s overall atmosphere, what makes it truly amazing and unique is the cuisine!
Just like the decorative interior, the food is jam-packed with colour. All menu items are brought to life through vibrant, authentic Spanish ingredients and garnishes, plated using beautiful European-style dishes – especially the traditional valencian classic paella!
Bar Catalina’s menu was carefully curated by the owner, operator and celebrity chef, Humberto Sanchez. Established in 2020, Humberto opened this restaurant with the goal of bringing classic Spanish cuisine and culture to Port Credit’s diverse population.
Sanchez’ philosophy with Bar Catalina, and all of his other cooking ventures, is to always put food first. He wants “people to feel the connection to everything we serve, the producers, the farmers, and the amazing Spanish ingredients available in Canada.”
Bar Catalina’s menu features a variety of Spanish tapas, paellas, grilled meats and fish, and of course, delicious desserts.
In addition, Bar Catalina offers weekly menu features and specials. Despite refreshingly updated features and specials, one popular fixture on this menu is the scallops and Argentinian red shrimp a la llauna – a style of Spanish rice made in a rectangular pan.
Menu staples include Bar Catalina’s three most popular dishes that include:
- Pulpo y romesco: Whole grilled octopus, pimiento oil, romesco sauce, fingerling potatoes, parsley and greens. This dish is packed with flavour, including hints of smokiness and a mild spice.
- Pescado y mariscos: Shrimp, monkfish, clams, squid, bomba rice and saffron. This traditional paella dish features a variety of seafood; offering layers of rich, smoky flavour profiles made with ingredients imported from Spain.
- Croquetas de jamon iberico: Iberian ham croquettes. A small tapas-styled dish accompanied by four perfectly-shaped bechamel croquettes, enveloping a tasty morsel of Iberico ham (premium Spanish ham).
Whether you decide to order from the weekly menu features or these three must-try menu items together, or individually, you will not be disappointed.
On top of Bar Catalina’s traditional Spanish eats, the restaurant carries a fine selection of cava, rose, red and white wines, sherry-based cocktails and a Spanish classic – housemade sangria. So, no matter what menu item you choose, you’re sure to find a perfectly paired cocktail or beverage.
From the restaurant’s cuisine and atmosphere, to the sangria and dessert, Bar Catalina offers a traditional and cozy Spanish-style setting with good music and great service, tying the entire experience together.
Also, every Wednesday and Thursday guests can order $1 oysters, and save 50% off wine on Tuesday’s.
