Residents of an east-end Mississauga nursing home continued to be rescued late into the evening after a nearby creek overflowed and flooded the building earlier on Tuesday (July 16).
Mississauga Fire posted a picture on social media of emergency crews and firefighters continuing to work together in evacuating residents out of Tyndall Seniors Village, located at 1060 Eglinton Avenue East.
“Approximately 113 residents are being relocated,” said Mississauga Fire on the social media platform X.
Paramedics and firefighters are tending to dozens of residents at a long-term care home in Mississauga’s east end after a nearby creek overflowed and flooded the building.
Mississauga firefighters said in a post to social media earlier in the day that the nursing home took in large amounts of water.
“The creek beside the nursing home overflowed, causing extensive flooding,” Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services officials said in a post to X.
The creek is situated just to the east of the long-term care home, which is located one block east of Tomken Road.
Fire officials said other city officials, including a building inspector, were called to the scene.
The incident is one of numerous calls responded to on Tuesday by firefighters, Peel Regional Police and Peel Paramedics as torrential rain that fell across the city and GTA has led to dozens of dangerous flooding situations on roads, highways and in homes and buildings.
