An Ethan Hawke and Mason Thames movie is reportedly filming in Mississauga.

The Black Phone 2 began filming on Nov. 4, the director, Scott Derrickson, posted on X.

Hawke is returning to his role as The Gabber and starring alongside Mason Thames (Finney), Madeleine McGraw (Gwen Blake), Miguel Mora (Robin Arellano) and Jeremy Davies (Terrence Blake), according to IMDb.

The Black Phone, released in 2021, is a psychological horror film about a boy who is abducted, locked in a basement and starts receiving calls on a disconnected phone from the killer’s previous victims.

Filming of The Black Phone 2 is scheduled in Mississauga from Nov. 4 to Jan. 15 under the working title MYSTERIUM, according to Hollywood North Buzz.

Ontario Creates notes MYSTERIUM, directed by Scott Derrickson, is filming in the Toronto area from Nov. 4 to Jan. 15.

Fans of Mason Thames may have seen posts on TikTok and Instagram of him and actress McKenna Grace together. One photo appears to show the pair on a balcony overlooking Mississauga City Hall.

It’s not clear if Grace is filming in the city. She is not listed in the cast for The Black Phone 2.

Mason Thames and McKenna Grace will star in Regretting You, which is slatted to start filming in March 2025, according to entertainment news site Deadline. The film is an adaption of the young adult novel of the same name by Colleen Hoover.

The Black Phone 2 is scheduled to be in theatres on Oct. 17, 2025.
