A driver has been charged after allegedly running a stop sign in a New Year’s Eve crash that led to injuries in Caledon, police say.

The crash happened shortly after 9 a.m. on Tuesday in the intersection of Centreville Creek Rd and Healey Rd. in Caledon, the OPP says.

Two people were injured in the crash and transported to a local hospital, Peel Regional Paramedic Services confirmed to INsauga.com.

A photo of the crash shared by police showed a mini-van in a ditch on the left side of the road, a blue car on the right, and two Peel paramedic ambulances on the scene.

One adult male suffered minor injuries while an adult female was transported with “moderate” injuries in stable condition, a spokesperson said.

“Not a great way to kick off New Years (sic) Eve,” the OPP said about the crash in a statement.

The crash has police reminding drivers “to slow down, pay attention, stay in control, wear your seat belt, and never drive impaired.”

Police officers across Ontario will be out in force on New Year’s Eve for the Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign.

The mobile checkstops are being set up on highways across the province until Jan. 1.

Officers are also conducting mandatory breathalyzer alcohol screening at every traffic stop on GTA highways, including the QEW and Highways 403 and 401.

Police say anyone who suspects a driver of operating while impaired by drugs or alcohol is encouraged to call 911 and report it when safe to do so.
