Driver clocked at 252 km/h on Highway 401 in Ontario

Police clocked a driver travelling a whopping 252 km/h on Highway 401 in Ontario.
The vehicle was first spotted as officers were checking for speeders with radar on westbound Highway 401 by Switzerville Road in the Napanee area just after 7 a.m. on Sunday (Oct. 15), Lennox and Addington County OPP said in a press release.
The officer was only there for a few short minutes when he saw a vehicle travelling eastbound at a high rate of speed toward him, OPP said.
The officer activated the front radar of the police vehicle and got a speed of 252 km/h, police said.
While pursuing the vehicle, OPP said it could be seen “swerving lane to lane passing other vehicles erratically.”
Police were able to catch up to the driver as he slowed down due to heavy traffic.
The vehicle was stopped just east of County Road 6 without incident.
The driver was arrested and placed in the back of the police vehicle.
OPP said officers found a small quantity of cannabis in the centre console of the car.
The driver was released on the roadside but is was license suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
A 40-year-old man from Kingston faces stunt driving charges, and careless driving and driving with cannabis readily available charges.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Provincial Offences Court in Greater Napanee at a later date.
