Premier Doug Ford will be making an announcement in Brampton this afternoon with Christine Elliott, Minister of Health.
Yesterday (October 26), after reporting over 400 new cases over a two-day period, Peel Public Health said that the Region of Peel (which consists of Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon) is officially experiencing a second wave of COVID-19.
The announcement came after Dr. Lawrence Loh, Peel’s Medical Officer of Health, insisted up until quite recently that the second wave that Toronto was experiencing had yet to hit Peel, adding that contact tracers were still able to adequately identify those who were exposed to the virus.
On Friday (October 23), Ford said that health officials would meet over the weekend to discuss whether the Halton and Durham regions should be reverted back to a modified Stage 2, something he has already done in Toronto, Peel and York Regions and Ottawa.
Yesterday (October 26), sources said Ford’s office was not prepared to make a decision on Halton Region’s immediate future concerning COVID sanctions.
Ford’s announcement in Brampton today is expected to air live at 1:00 pm.
