Don’t cover your car with Christmas lights, police in Ontario warn

As we enter the holiday season, police in Ontario are warning drivers to not cover their cars with Christmas lights.
Waterloo Regional Police said that there has been a “social media trend” recently of vehicles covered with the lights.
“While we appreciate the holiday spirit, these lights present a potential safety hazard on the road,” police said.
Under the Highway Traffic Act, vehicles are only allowed to have a white or amber light at the front and a red light at the rear, police said.
“There are some exemptions for emergency vehicles and snowplows that allow for different coloured lights from the vehicle,” officers said, adding that the regulations are meant to prevent confusion for motorists approaching emergency vehicles.
The message came after a user on Reddit posted a photo on Sunday appearing to show a Waterloo police officer having pulled over a car covered with Christmas lights.
