Dec. 28 weather: Rain in the forecast this weekend in southern Ontario

You can expect a wet weekend with warmer-than-average temperatures in Mississauga, Brampton and Toronto, while it could get icy in other parts of southern Ontario.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says to expect showers early on Saturday in Toronto and the GTA, with more rain possible in the afternoon and evening.

The later part of the day will bring a 40 per cent chance of rain or drizzle in Mississauga, and the agency says the GTA and surrounding areas could see between 15 to 30 mm of rain by Monday.

Temperatures will be above average for this time of year with a daytime high of around 10 C in Mississauga on Saturday, when temperature normals are usually around -1 C.

The daytime will see mostly cloudy conditions with more rain possible in the evening and an overnight low of around 4 C in Mississauga.

While the weather is expected to be warmer around the GTA, Environment Canada issued freezing rain warnings for Ottawa and some parts of the province for Saturday, and northeastern parts of the province will likely get snow by the end of the Sunday.

Residents in affected areas can expect patches of freezing rain and slippery conditions due to icing.
