Dec. 26 weather: Boxing Day shopping will feel like -9 C with snow in southern Ontario

If you had a relaxing Christmas and are ready to hit the stores for Boxing Day deals, make sure to bundle up as some chilly weather and snow are headed to southern Ontario.


Early risers hoping to catch Sunday’s 7:49 a.m. sunrise might be disappointed as cloudy conditions could obscure the view.

Ontario residents will wake up to mainly cloudy skies in Mississauga, Brampton, Halton and Durham, while Hamilton will see a mix of sun and clouds.

Morning wind chills will vary across the region, with Halton and Hamilton feeling like -6 C, Mississauga and Brampton at -7 C and Durham reaching -9 C.

There’s also a 30 per cent chance of flurries in Mississauga, Brampton, Halton and Durham, starting early in the day and continuing into the afternoon.

Daytime highs will reach 0 C in Mississauga, Brampton, Halton and Hamilton, while it will be below freezing at -1 C in Durham.

Brisk 15 km/h winds are expected to intensify in the afternoon and continue overnight, adding to the chill of the already cold temperatures.

Sunset begins at 4:43 p.m.

Skies will be predominantly cloudy across all cities in the evening, bringing a 40 per cent chance of rain to Mississauga and Brampton, while Halton, Hamilton and Durham will remain dry.

Evening lows will dip to -1 C in Mississauga and Brampton, while Halton will drop to 0 C. Durham and Hamilton will be the coldest, reaching -3 C.

It looks like a change in weather is expected for the rest of the week and into the following week, bringing rain and above-normal temperatures, very reminiscent of early spring.

From Thursday through Tuesday, skies will be overcast. Starting Saturday and lasting through Tuesday, there’s a 40 per cent chance of rain both during the day and at night. Temperatures will range from 3 C to 11 C, with evening lows dropping between 0 C and 7 C.
