Drivers can expect a cold, snowy and slippery start to the day with a weather travel advisory and snow in the forecast in Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, and parts of southern Ontario.
Environment Canada put out a winter weather travel advisory shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Thursday saying drivers should expect “hazardous winter driving conditions” on Friday.
With snow coming off Lake Ontario developing overnight combined with an incoming low pressure system, Mississauga could see between 5 to 10 cm on Friday.
“Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” Environment Canada says of road conditions.
The snowfall is expected to die down through the day as lake effect snow shifts south, but drivers on the morning commute should be prepared for poor weather and drive accordingly, Environment Canada says.
Flurries are expected to start near midnight and carry on into the morning with a high of -2 C in Mississauga that will feel more like -10 C with the wind chill.
Towards the evening, Environment Canada is calling for periods of light snow. Wind north 20 km/h becoming light late in the evening. Low minus 10. Wind chill minus 9 in the evening and minus 14 overnight.
Some forecasts are calling for up to 20 cm of snow could be coming to the GTA and southern Ontario throughout the weekend.
