Customers who use a GO station in Mississauga are being encouraged to park elsewhere amid a construction project.

Construction in the parking lot of Malton GO station, located near Airport and Derry roads, began on Monday.

GO Transit says that during the first phase of the project, the west side of the lot will be closed, meaning that several parking spaces will be unavailable.

Customers were encouraged to go to different stations for parking, with GO Transit noting that Etobicoke North is an around 16-minute drive southeast and Bramalea is around 20 minutes northwest.

It’s expected that the construction will take approximately five weeks, but that could change due to “unforeseen circumstances or weather conditions,” GO Transit said.

Metrolinx told INsauga.com that the second phase of work, which will happen on the north section of the parking lot, is expected to start in the new year.
