UPDATE: Fatal crash closes busy Brampton intersection; police watchdog to investigate

Police are on the scene of a fatal crash in Brampton Friday morning (Nov. 5) that has closed a busy intersection.
OPP said the collision occurred early Friday at the intersection of Sandalwood Parkway and Dixie Road and resulted in injuries.
Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate, police said.
UPDATE: The SIU said two people were taken to hospital where one person has since succumbed to their injuries.
Police said the crash happened after OPP initiated a traffic stop at 2:45 a.m. and the driver fled.
An investigation into the crash remains ongoing and the intersection remains closed. Motorists should consider alternate routes or expect delays in the area.
