Canadian rock band Rush collaborated with Henderson Brewing Company to open a new bar at Pearson Airport in Mississauga.
The bar, Henderson Brewery @ YYZ, opened in Terminal 1 this week and Rush band members Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee were among the first to enjoy a beer at the new spot.
The specialty bar features original Rush memorabilia and Rush Canadian Golden Ale — a special brew that pays homage to the iconic band, according to press releases from Henderson and Pearson.
“What could be more appropriate than our Rush Canadian Golden Ale having a home at YYZ?” said Lee. “The opening rhythm of our ‘YYZ’ song was inspired by the morse code for YYZ airport. We would get so excited to see YYZ on our ticketed bags as it meant we were coming home. Even though the song is instrumental, it’s about our city, where we came from, and how good it is to come home.”
Rush formed in Toronto in 1968 and were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio in 2013.
Henderson and the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers also partnered with global restaurateur HMSHost, a world leader in creating dining for travel venues, to open a new bar at Pearson.
The 28-seat Henderson Brewery @ YYZ is accessible to both domestic and international passengers, as well as visitors to the airport.
The bar showcases original artifacts from Rush’s touring and recording career in a “one-of-a-kind mini concert museum” with a look at the band’s legendary history.
The bar will also sell specially curated “Fly By Night Lager”, created solely for Pearson, other Henderson Brewing favourites, and it features a gift shop with Henderson and Rush merchandise.
Area residents can make a quick trip to the airport for the exclusive gear and takeaway beer only available at YYZ, as Henderson Brewery @ YYZ is just steps away from the escalators leading into the terminal from the Union Pearson Express.
Pearson is happy to welcome the new bar.
“We are truly thrilled to partner with HMSHost, Henderson Brewing Company, and the legendary band Rush to curate an extraordinary experience for travellers at Toronto Pearson International Airport,” said Khalil Lamrabet, chief commercial officer, Greater Toronto Airports Authority.
“With the opening of Henderson Brewery @ YYZ, we’re introducing a unique touch that will redefine the airport experience and create an unforgettable welcome-to-Toronto ambiance. We are thrilled to welcome this exciting addition to our airport and can’t wait for passengers to enjoy this one-of-a-kind experience.”
The bar is open daily from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Pearson asks people to please enjoy responsibly.
