A Mississauga resident is one of two people charged by police in connection with an “extensive” health fraud investigation related to the COVID-19 vaccine database in Ontario.
Health fraud investigators with Ontario Provincial Police are saying little about the case, offering only that their probe revealed some 150 entries into the database were falsified.
Police didn’t say how they believe those responsible gained access to the COVID-19 vaccine database, when the incidents were alleged to have taken place nor what the specific motivation was for the crime.
Waseem Razvi, 35, of Mississauga, and Trang Tran, 34, of Scarborough, are each changed with:
- mischief to computer data
- unauthorized use of a computer
- breach of public trust
- forgery
- trafficking in a forged document
Both suspects were released from police custody and will appear in Toronto court on Dec. 19.
The OPP’s Health Fraud Investigation Unit looks into criminal and provincial offences involving the payment and delivery of health-care services and products.
Anyone who suspects such an offence has taken place is urged by police to report it to the Ministry of Health or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
