Halton police Mississauga Oakville drugs

Police in Halton Region say they had to use a tire deflation device to stop a fleeing car that ended with the arrest of two Mississauga women on drug trafficking charges.

Police say that events unfolded around 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 16 when officers attempted a traffic stop in the area of Kobzar Drive and Travertine Drive.

“The vehicle accelerated away from police at a high rate of speed,” according to information provided by police.

Officers were then able to use a tire deflation device — which is usually a form of spiked sticks — to stop the vehicle near Trafalgar Road on the eastbound 407.

As a result of the investigation, Maryam Saleem, 18, of Mississauga has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Xanax for the purpose of trafficking
  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • Fail to comply with release order
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

Alina Aleem, 19, of Mississauga has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Xanax for the purpose of trafficking
