Police have suspended a commercial driver from Brampton after he was allegedly caught drinking on the job while on an Ontario highway.

The traffic stop happened on Monday shortly before 11 a.m. after the OPP says officers from the Temiskaming detachment got a call about a driver “that was all over the road” on Highway 11 in Latchford, approximately 230 kilometres from Timmins.

Officers located the vehicle and stopped the driver to discover “that the driver had been consuming an alcoholic beverage,” the OPP says.

Police say the 45-year-old male driver from Brampton was arrested taken for further testing.

The Commercial driver from Brampton was charged with one count each of operation while impaired – alcohol and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Haileybury Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 29. The driver was also hit with a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the commercial vehicle was impounded for a week, police say.
