A popular Mississauga restaurant known for its Punjabi-Canadian comfort food is being featured on Food Network (Canada) on Saturday night (Sept. 17).
Rick’s Good Eats will be highlighted on the weekly TV show Big Food Bucket List, hosted by John Catucci, airing at 8 p.m.
Catucci, who began producing and hosting the Food Network series in May 2019, recently spent time at the Kennedy Rd. restaurant with owner and chef Rick Matharu.
“John Catucci came by to try our top signature items and see why they should be on everyone’s ‘Bucket List’,” said Harjot Ghuman-Matharu, creative director at the popular Mississauga restaurant. “He joined Chef Rick in the kitchen to learn how we make our iconic Butter Chicken Samosas, which we made into a Samosa Chaat, as well as our Punjabi Cheeseburger with Tandoori Bacon.”
While in Mississauga, Catucci also spoke with “super fans and regulars of the restaurant” to find out why Rick’s Good Eats has become a community fixture over the years.
Rick’s Good Eats specializes in a fusion of Indian and North American cuisine. Some of its more popular menu items include the aforementioned Punjabi Cheeseburger, Tandoori Fried Chicken Burger and a selection of gourmet samosas that range from savoury to sweet.
A previous story on insauga.com noted that Matharu has his upbringing, in large part, to thank for his success in the restaurant business. Growing up in a diverse area, he was exposed to many different cultures and their food and he says his mother was constantly experimenting with fusion food.
Matharu became a near-household name after winning season two of Food Network’s Recipe to Riches (20011), a reality show in which home cooks from across Canada compete to have their recipe become a President’s Choice product.
