A major furniture retail store in Burlington is closed after a heavy rainstorm on Monday afternoon (July 15).

The flash flood occurred around noon, flooding multiple roads and intersections in the city and even forcing the closure of Leon’s Furniture Store, located at 3167 North Service Road.

When reached, a media representative of Leon’s Furniture confirmed that the showroom at the Burlington store had flooded and the store was forced to close.

“They are currently closed and are working on reopening as soon as possible,” Thalia Policicchio told INhalton.com.

The extent of damage as a result of the flooded showroom was not known at this time.

Halton Regional Police said multiple roads and intersections across Burlington have been flooded, as well as storm water systems overwhelmed, due to the heavy rains.

Burlington intersections affected by the flooding included:

  • Walkers Line and Mainway Avenue
  • Hampton Heath Road/Windermere Drive.
  • North Service Road/Skyview Road
  • Plains Road East/Brant Street

“Crews are working diligently as intersections, streets and roadways are being reopened,” said Halton police. “As this work continues drivers are reminded to continue to drive according to the weather and road conditions.”

Police are asking commuters in those areas to drive carefully and remain patient while the waters recede.
