A collision reporting centre in Brampton was shut down Sunday afternoon.
Peel Regional Police announced in a social media post shortly before 1 p.m. that the Collision Reporting Centre at Shoppers World, located at 499 Main St. S., would be closed for the remainder of the day due to unforeseen circumstances.
Officers did not specify the reason for the closure but directed residents needing to report a collision to 11 Division, located at 3030 Erin Mills Pkwy in Mississauga. The alternative location, approximately a 22-minute drive from the Brampton centre, will remain open until 6 p.m.
Collision Reporting Centres are facilities designed to assist drivers in reporting traffic incidents that involve personal injury, damages exceeding $2,000, or damage to highway property, as required under the Highway Traffic Act.
At these centres, drivers can exchange information with other involved parties, complete a police report with assistance from staff, have vehicle damage documented and notify their insurance company.
Peel police expressed their gratitude for the public’s understanding and encouraged drivers to plan accordingly. Further updates regarding the reopening of the Brampton centre are expected.
