A beloved burger joint with more than 60 years of history in Mississauga has closed.
C & Dubbs Hamburgers Inc., which opened in 1962 in Mississauga, has closed.
The burger joint, known for its hefty, one-pound sumo burger, has been located at 1706 Dundas St. E. for the last 15 years. Before that, it was in a house next door.
The restaurant announced the closure in a post on Google.
“As of January 15, 2024, C & Dubbs Hamburgers will no longer be open,” the post reads. “We have had the honour and privilege to serve the community for over six decades and thank each and every one of you for your patronage.”
“Many of you became regulars who we can’t thank enough, as you truly were the backbone of our success over all these years,” the post continues. “I’d like to thank all the great employees that have worked here, many I have the privilege to still call a friend.”
The owners said it was hard to close the Mississauga institution.
“It was a very difficult decision to move on as this business has been in the family for so long, it was just time to step back and pursue other opportunities.”
The restaurant was run by two brothers whose father started working there in 1967.
It was listed as one of the five oldest restaurants in Mississauga.
Other than its old-school burgers and fries, C & Dubbs’ claim to fame is being in the 1995 Adam Sandler flick Billy Madison.
The restaurant is the back drop for the “pickle racing scene.”
The scene features pickles thrown from burgers onto a window to see which one would fall down first.
