Downtown Brampton is about to get a lot more artistic.

The City is introducing two new pilot projects starting this fall intended to make art more accessible for residents and contribute to a more vibrant public space for the community.

The first project involves wrapping five traffic control boxes along Queen Street East with art from Brampton-based artists featured in Arts, Culture and Creative Industry Development Agency’s Postcard Project—Your Artist Story.

Artists include Aditi Kashyap, Amye St John, Annamarie Claudette, Malachi Watson-Narcisse and Michel Nwoye-Vincent.

The second involves implementing six food-themed murals on empty storefronts along Main Street North.

The murals will be created by Brampton-based artist Meegan Lim, an illustrator and emerging arts facilitator known for her detailed illustrations focusing on food and cultural identity, and the vast stories that exist in those intersections.

The murals are intended to help strengthen Brampton’s Food Tourism sector, while also making downtown more aesthetic by bringing life to the vacant spaces.

“Brampton is a Mosaic and one that continues to come to life thanks to the contributions of our creative community,” Mayor Patrick Brown said in a news release.

“These public art pilot projects will bring vibrancy to our downtown and create opportunities for local artists, support the downtown redevelopment and Brampton’s growing culinary scene, while making art more accessible to all members of the community!”
