U.S. authorities seized chocolate bricks filled with the “magic mushroom” drug at the Niagara and Buffalo border, officials say.

Today, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced that officers at the Port of Buffalo discovered multiple commercial shipments containing psilocybin at the Peace Bridge warehouse over the previous 30 days.

Psilocybin is a psychedelic drug that occurs naturally in some mushrooms, more often called “magic mushrooms.”

A news release says officers working in the Peace Bridge cargo facilities discovered multiple shipments that, upon further inspection, were identified as chocolate bricks with the hallucinogenic substance.

The release says the suspected narcotics were field tested, confirming the presence of psilocybin.

A total of 15 seizures of psilocybin chocolate shipments weighing more than 20 pounds were reportedly intercepted, including approximately seven pounds seized on Oct. 9.

“Utilizing their training and experience, our CBP officers continue to intercept narcotic shipments,” said Area Port Director Gaetano Cordone in a statement.

“All of our CBP employees work tirelessly each and every day to protect our country and communities from unregulated drugs that can become fatal to consumers.”

The alleged smuggling attempt remains under CBP investigation, officials say.
