Chick-fil-A is coming to Burlington.
After months if not years of discussion, the American-based fast-food chain confirmed that it intends to open here later this year.
“We are always exploring opportunities in Canada. At this time, we can confirm we are opening a Chick-fil-A in Burlington in the winter of 2024,” a company spokesperson told halton.insauga.com.
It will open in the Appleby Crossing plaza in the Appleby Line and Dundas Street area.
The Burlington location fits with the corporate plan that was announced earlier that calls for the company to grow aggressively across Canada in the coming years.
Famous for its chicken sandwich, Chick-fil-A has proven popular with diners in Canada based on its reputation in the U.S. When it first opened in Toronto employees were faced with daily customer line-ups.
The company has also been a lightning rod for controversy due to founder S. Truett Cathy’s adherence to fundamental Christian teachings and opposition to same-sex marriage. Despite boycotts in 2012, supporters rallied and boosted sales for the company.
Subsequently, a statement released by the company in 2012 stated: “The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect – regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender.”
Chick-fil-A operates more than 3,000 restaurants around the world.
