Chemical spill in Mississauga.

Two people have been taken to hospital and part of a major road has been shut down to traffic after a chemical spill Friday afternoon in Mississauga’s east end.

Peel Regional Police aren’t saying much about the incident, only that two people were hospitalized “as a precaution” after a chemical spill just after 2:30 p.m. in the area of Eglinton Avenue East and Tomken Road.

It’s not known what type of chemicals are involved in the spill or where they originated.

Tomken Road, between Eglinton Avenue East and Timberlea Boulevard, has been closed to traffic for investigation and cleanup, police said.

Mississauga fire crews are also on the scene and are being assisted by police.

Police urge drivers to avoid the area.
