Cheapest beach destinations for Canadian travellers revealed

A new list reveals some of the cheapest prices for flights to beach destinations.

Many Canadians love to travel during the winter and cold temperatures forecast this weekend may have some people dreaming of a beach escape.

Travel search engine Kayak just released its What to expect for 2025 travel report, forecasting Canadian travel habits for the year ahead.

The report looks at the hottest trending international destinations and the best deals for sunny getaways.

International airfare prices are down three per cent compared to 2024 but domestic airfare will hit a four-year high in 2025 with a 19 per cent increase compared to last year, the report states. Bad news for people who need to travel within Canada but good news for travellers looking for a winter trip.

In fact, Caribbean flights are the cheapest Kayak has seen in three years. Overall, travellers can expect to see airfares down five per cent compared to 2024.

People looking for the cheapest flight may want to check out flights to the Cayman Islands, which has average airfares at just under $700, according to Kayak.

A self-governing British Overseas Territory, the Cayman Islands consist of three islands in the western Caribbean Sea. Grand Cayman, the largest island, is known for its beach resorts, scuba diving and snorkelling sites.

The Dominican Republic, known for its beaches, resorts and golfing, has the next cheapest flights at just over $800.

Looking at the top trending destinations, Kayak found Africa is the number one trending region in 2025 with a nine per cent year-over-year increase in interest compared to 2024.

Three of the top 10 trending destinations — Marrakech, Casablanca and Johannesburg — for 2025 are in Africa.

To round out the trending destinations list, Kayak sees several off-the-beaten-path destinations such Funchal in Vietnam and Cape Town for Johannesburg in South Africa on the list for 2025.

The report also found, that while domestic flights costs are up, hotel rates are 10 per cent lower in Canada. But international hotel stays are up three per cent.

As for road trips, unfortunately, rental cars are seeing a five and two per cent hike in international and domestic rates, respectively.
