Get ready for a day of music, food, fun and community as Brampton is gearing up to celebrate Pride next month.

The City will be transforming Garden Square into a hub of celebration on June 4 for its annual Pride festivities which will include live performances, giveaways, refreshments from local vendors and much more.

There will also be opportunities to engage with different community groups and organizations that support the LGBTQIA2S+ communities in Brampton.

“Pride in Brampton is a celebration of people coming together in love and friendship, to show how far the rights have come, and how in some places there’s still work to be done,” the City said.

Co-headlining this year’s event are platinum-certified singer-songwriter Ryland James, who rose made their mark with the 2019 single “In My Head” which shot to #1 on Shazam Canada’s Top 200 chart, and the medium-bending Vivek Shraya whose debut play How to Fail as a Popstar is being turned into a digital series on the CBC.

There will also be performances from the Naach for Fun dance troupe, alt-pop indie rockers Madame Psychosis, and author Jennifer Alicia among others.

The City will also be holding pop-up marriage ceremonies for couples at Market Square for Pride. The event runs on June 4 and will have wedding ceremonies performed every 30 minutes between 2:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Applications for the civil ceremonies are open until Friday (May 26) with more information on how to register available online.

“Let’s gather as a community to celebrate Pride and make it clear that each and every day Brampton is a City that is safe, inclusive and welcoming to all,” Mayor Patrick Brown said in a statement.

The City says residents’ safety and comfort are priorities during Pride and the City Hall Conservatory will be set up as a dedicated safe space for attendees with accessible, all-gender washrooms will be available on-site.
