Labour dispute cancels GO Train service for Mississauga, Milton, Hamilton commuters

Commuters in Milton and parts of Mississauga and Hamilton will be without GO Train service today (Aug. 22).

This comes as Canada’s two major railways decided to lock out workers following a last-minute bid to hammer out a collective agreement.

Initially, this means those who usually catch the Go Train in Milton and at Mississauga stations Lisgar, Meadowvale, Streetsville, Erindale, Cooksville and Dixie will have to find other ways to travel for this morning’s commute.

The evening rush hour ride from Union Station along the Milton line will also be cancelled.

Passengers will also not be able to use the Hamilton GO station.

All other GO services and train stations (including West Harbour in Hamilton and other Lakeshore West stations), as well as the UP Express, will operate as usual.

There is no indication how long service will be suspended along the Milton line and whether it will last for the duration of the work stoppage.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City and Canadian National Railway have been negotiating with Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) to keep the 9,300 workers on the job.

Metrolinx has announced a series of options for those who have been affected by the lockout.
